Man Booker prize 2002

Awarded in October, the prize is now officially called the Man Booker Prize, in honour of its new sponsor, global investment broker Man Group while retaining the name of its original sponsor, food distribution firm Booker, which established the prize in 1968.
Awarded to the best full-length novel of the year, the prize is open to authors from the UK, Ireland and the Commonwealth, the winner receiving £50,000, with £2,500 for each of the six shortlisted authors. This year's longlist was chosen from a total of 130 entries.
The winner will be announced on 22 October at the awards ceremony to be held at the Great Court of the British Museum in London.
