Established by Whitbread PLC — one of the UK's leading leisure companies — in 1971, the Whitbread Book Awards 'celebrate the most enjoyable British writing of the last year'.
The five category short lists are given below. The overall winner of the £25,000 Whitbread Book of the Year will be announced in January 2006 at an awards ceremony to be held in London.
