GOBI™ Edition 2

At the ALA Midwinter meeting in January 2003, YBP/Lindsay and Croft launched GOBI™ Edition 2, a complete redesign of GOBI™(originally launched in 1996 and the first web-based database service from an academic book vendor).

Building on the success of the original system — but completely redesigned using the latest software and systems available — GOBI™ 2 offers a package of core features that support online selection and ordering every step of the way.

Here we answer some of your questions about GOBI™ 2.

Is GOBI™ 2 available to both YBP and Lindsay and Croft customers?

GOBI™ 2 is now in general release offering sophisticated acquisitions and collection management support across an integrated Anglo-American database of over 2.2 million bibliographic records. What are the key features of the first release?

Here are some of the main features on the current release:

  • Organise entire workflows, including searching, selecting, ordering and exporting
  • The same duplication control features as GOBI™
  • Create slip views for quick retrieval of often-used searches of your library's notification slips
  • View the most recent library action for a title and alternate editions, and click to see complete library history
  • Search for open, shipped or cancelled orders
  • View your YBP and Lindsay and Croft account structure
  • View customised GobiSmart ordering and selection screen designs
  • View in-stock status, tables of contents, title summaries, and book jackets
  • See expanded GobiTween information (applicable to consortia only)
  • Time-saving features such as folders, email, library notes and templates
  • Customise views of title records and search results list to suit your requirements
  • Place, edit and cancel standing orders
  • Search continuations titles in the YBP/Lindsay and Croft shared database
  • Submit online claims for volumes on standing order
  • Download lists of titles in a variety of formats
  • Sign up for GobiAlerts — a new service to alert faculty and others to pertinent new approval titles under subject profiles and email lists maintained at the library

Is there a fee for GOBI™ 2?

The basic system, with extended tools for continuations management, will be provided at no charge but some new features will only be available by modest subscription (determined by a library's size according to Carnegie Foundation classification and feature groups chosen by the library).

Will my GOBI™ username and password work for GOBI™ 2?

As each GOBI™ 2 user is set up with an individual username and password, existing login details are not transferable.

Different levels of training are available; GOBI™ 2 contains a series of tutorials and screen-specific help. We can also provide 'walk-through' assistance by phone or email.

Three steps to getting started

Registering for access to GOBI™ 2 is very simple.

  • Each library will have a GOBI™ Administrator who sets up the individual users. Lindsay and Croft must initiate access for each GOBI™ Administrator so — in the first instance — please contact Customer Services with the name and email address of your GOBI™ Administrator.
  • Our customer services team will contact your GOBI™ Administrator to arrange access and guide them through the GOBI™ admin screens.
  • Your GOBI™ Administrator will add GOBI™ 2 users and assign permissions to select, order or export. After a user has logged into GOBI™ 2, tutorials, a quick-start guide and screen-specific help are all available online.

For optimum performance, we recommend Internet Explorer 5.5 and higher, or Netscape 6.2 and above.

If you already have a YBP account in GOBI™, why not set up a Lindsay and Croft account and place orders direct with us — books are mailed straight to you (rather than via YBP) saving valuable shipping time and there's no surcharge to pay either!
